About Us

The Issaquah Special Education PTSA is a district-wide non-profit organization serving the teachers, staff, families, and students that are part of the special education community. As a district-wide organization we are not linked to any individual school, we serve and support all grade levels and all schools and programs. We are advocacy focused and encourage partnership with fellow school PTAs.  Students with disabilities and their families will find a welcoming community who “get it” and want to help make the school system work for ALL students.

Frequently Asked Questions

While we have amazing PTAs at every school in our district, our PTSA’s mission is different: we focus solely on the special education community. Since our students are spread out across the 26 schools in our district it can be difficult for families to know each other.

As the only district-wide PTSA in Issaquah, our objective is to create a community that learns from each other, shares resources and advocates for the needs of special education students, teachers and families.

Absolutely!  Individual school PTA’s serve a critical purpose at each school, supporting the teachers, staff and programs for students. Please consider joining both your school as well as our PTSA!

We support ALL students with disabilities or suspected disabilities residing within the Issaquah School District boundaries, their families and their educators. This includes public school students who receive support through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 plan, Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS), Learning Assistance Program (LAP)/Title 1, speech/language services, mental health programs, the juvenile justice system, early childhood programs, outside agencies, the Academy for Community Transition (ACT),  and the Early Childhood Education Special Education Classroom Program (ECEAP), as well as students in the homeschool and private school communities.

Our History

In January 2022, the interim steering committee for the proposed Issaquah Special Education PTSA was formed, and our application for affiliation with the Washington State PTA was approved. Our charter membership meeting was held on March 28, 2022. We voted in a charter board and drafted the required formation documents. Thank you to our board and interim steering committee members for making this happen. We also want to thank our 77 charter members. We only needed 25 members to form and we are grateful for the outstanding support from the Issaquah community. The 2022/23 school year was our inaugural year. Our Board stayed busy building relationships with various departments in the Issaquah School District and with parents in our community. We were welcomed with incredible support from our members and the wider community and look forward to continuing our work.
